Climate Week 2011

NATIONAL CLIMATE WEEK

March 20th to 27th 2011

Along with towns and cities, organisations and businesses across the country PAWS celebrated National Climate Week with several local events taking place during the above week.

Saturday March 19th  Re-Use Day
A local freecycle event took place in both villages. For a day you were invited to place in front of your property any unwanted, but reusable items. As people walked around the villages they may have found the very thing they were looking for! For FREE!

Thursday March 24th Climate Change Open Forum

 8.00pm Pangbourne Village Hall
A large audience came to meet our panel of experts in issues of sustainability, including two world experts in the Science of Climate Change, Sir Brian Hoskins and Professor Nigel Arnell. We were extremely fortunate to have two such influential panel members at this event. People had the opportunity to come armed with their questions about climate science and learn why we need to conserve energy and live more sustainably.

Sunday March 27 Family Cycle Ride
PAWS produced new high quality map of 3 practical cycle routes around the local area to encourage people to use their bicycles more and their cars less. This event was to launch the maps. Starting at Pangbourne Primary School, with local MP, Alok Sharma and family leading the way, the route was easy and safe to Sainsbury's Calcott and Theale on quiet roads and tracks. Refreshments were provided in the garden of the Crown Pub.
